The Pink Castle Comes to Life: ASB Presents Danubius Lofts and Danubius Two

In the professional magazine ASB (issue no. 258), an article titled “The Pink Castle Comes to Life” was published, focusing on the final phases of development of the Danubius area in Bratislava’s Ružinov district.

The article offers an insight into the planned reconstruction of a national cultural monument – the former Danubius factory, also known as the former Cvernovka or the “Pink Castle”. This exclusive apartment captivates with its spacious and elegant design, combining modern elements with an emphasis on comfort and practicality. Explore every corner of the apartment and don’t miss the breathtaking views from the terrace.

A Second Life for an Industrial Landmark

ASB recalls the unique history of the Danubius factory, which began producing cotton yarns in 1909. With its distinctive Art Nouveau façade and progressive reinforced-concrete structure, the building ranks among the most valuable industrial landmarks in Bratislava. Today, it is preparing for a sensitive restoration as part of the Danubius Lofts project.

The Atrium as the Heart of the Future District

The authors of the reconstruction, topinka architekti, emphasize the atrium as the natural center of both the building and the entire zone. As architect Peter Topinka explains, the design perceives the atrium as the most attractive communication space of the future development – a central passage, gallery, and meeting place that functionally and visually connects the original spinning mill building with the new extension. Particular attention is paid to the orientation, shape, and openness of the atrium toward its surroundings, bringing more light, comfort, and a vibrant atmosphere to the entire complex.

Preserving the Original in Its Historical Integrity

The article emphasizes that the reconstruction is being carried out under the strict supervision of the heritage conservation authority. Architect Peter Topinka also highlights the respect for the building’s historical value: interior layout changes are limited to newly inserted structures, while the original staircases, elevator shafts, concrete and steel elements will be preserved and restored to the greatest extent possible. The technical solutions are designed so as not to disturb the original façades or the roof, with the primary goal of preserving the monument in its historical integrity.

Danubius Two and a New Piazzetta

Project manager Ákos Merva notes in ASB that FINEP has been developing the former industrial site since 2007, and the latest phases represent a natural culmination of the area’s transformation. According to him, the planned construction of the 118-metre Danubius Two tower, the new piazzetta, and above all the restoration of the historic landmark will significantly enhance the quality of the area – both visually and urbanistically – compared to its current state.
